Analogue of EN 818-1 — general requirements for lifting chains
EN 818-1 is part 1 of the EN 818 family (general conditions of acceptance for short-link lifting chains). The Russian basis is GOST EN 818-1-2017; for class 8 — GOST EN 818-2-2017 and our TU 25.93.17-002-06515248-2026 (T8).
What EN 818-1 is
EN 818-1 is part 1 of the EN 818 family “Short link chain for lifting purposes. Safety”. It contains the general conditions of acceptance: test rules, proof and technological loads, marking and documents for short-link lifting chains and chain sling assemblies. This is an “umbrella” part — it does not define a size range; the specific requirements for classes are set by other parts of the family (part 2 for class 8 sling chains, part 3 for class 4, part 7 for calibrated class T chains for lifting appliances).
Russian analogue
EN 818-1 has been officially adopted in Russia as GOST EN 818-1-2017 “Short link chain for lifting purposes. Safety. Part 1. General conditions of acceptance” (identical to EN 818-1:1996+A1:2008).
For our products the basis for class 8 is GOST EN 818-2-2017, and manufacturing follows our own TU 25.93.17-002-06515248-2026 (TU-002, designation T8): lifting calibrated high-strength chains for chain hoists and other lifting devices. The correspondence is checked by the parameters: gauge, pitch, acceptance proof, technological and breaking loads, weight.
How to select a replacement
- Determine which part of the family applies: sling chains — parts 2–3, calibrated chains for lifting appliances — part 7.
- Take the gauge (d), pitch (t) and the required working load.
- Calculate the required breaking load with your safety factor (usually ×4 for lifting) and select a size from the T8 line — for lifting appliances. Sling chains (parts 2–3) require a certified class 8 sling assembly: our TUs do not provide for the use of our chains as slings.
- For critical load-handling operations, check the document requirements.
Important
EN 818-1 is the general part of the family: a direct one-to-one replacement is not claimed under it; for class 8 the basis is GOST EN 818-2-2017 and our TU-002. Our TU-002 (T8) does not provide for the use of chains as slings: a sling chain is a separate certified class 8 assembly. The replacement is confirmed by technical parameters for the specific task; the final conformity is clarified by a technologist for the specific task and size.
