SOTA or LESENKA

2026-10-14

Two versions of one task

Anti-slip chains come in two versions:

  • SOTA — a chain pattern in the form of cells (honeycombs).
  • LESENKA — cross links (traction bars) connected by longitudinal chains.

Both versions solve one task — increasing traction on snow, ice and soil. They differ in the contact pattern with the surface and in the driving feel; the specific version is selected for the machinery, the surface and the operating style.

How this is recorded in the catalog table

In the anti-slip chains table, one row is one tyre marking, and the version options are given in separate columns:

  • “B (lesenka)” and “C (sota)” — the pattern type;
  • next to it the set option is shown — for example, 8/7, 8/8, 10/8 for trucks and 6/5 for special machinery.

These are the chain configuration options, not weight and not class. A manager will clarify the option suitable for your machinery and conditions.

The weight in the table is given for a set of 2 pcs. For reference: a set for the tyre 320x508 (12.00-20) weighs from 30 to 36 kg depending on the version and configuration.

What to choose

Trucks

For tractor units, dump trucks and flatbed vehicles the chains are fitted on the drive axle. Selection — by tyre marking (the table has a filter) and surface type.

Special machinery and loaders

For large-diameter wheels and high loads the 6/5 version is used — from the special machinery catalog.

When heavy-duty is needed

To order we make heavy-duty chains — with a larger diameter of the working and side chain — and chains for any tyre size, including those not in the table.

Fitting and operation — briefly

  • Fitted on the drive wheels, with the tension chain on the outer side.
  • About 500 m after fitting, the chain is re-tightened.
  • On cleared surfaces it is better to remove the chains; speed — no more than 50 km/h.
  • Corrosion may form from road de-icing agents; at any defect the chain is removed.

The step-by-step procedure is in the article Fitting anti-slip chains.

Certification

In accordance with TR CU 018/2011 “On the safety of wheeled vehicles”, anti-slip chains are not subject to mandatory certification.

State the tyre marking and the machinery — we will select the version and configuration and, if necessary, make a heavy-duty set.
